COMMUNICATION

footlik.weebly.com
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Email is the best way to contact me. If you would like to speak on the phone, email me to let me know and I will arrange a time to call you.
I may not get a chance to read or reply to emails during the school day. Although, I do try to reply back to dismissal changes promptly to let you know they were received. Please allow 24 hours for anything that requires a more thoughtful response. If you have an urgent matter, please call the school office. 224-765-3400
Blue Take Home Folder
The students will have a folder in which to carry things back and forth to school. They should check their folder at home every day and give you any notes to be returned or work to keep at home. The folder should then be placed back in their backpack to make sure they return it to school the next day. Any notes for me should come to school in the folder’s front pocket. Make your child a part of this process to establish responsibility and organizational skills (do not do it for them). It is your child’s responsibility to empty and bring back the folder, and your job to guide them.
Class Updates
I mainly communicate via Parent Square. I try to limit my class updates to once a week on Fridays. I may not send one every Friday. Please read these emails to stay informed about our class.
Picture Updates
Every 2-3 weeks or when we have something special going on, I will send out a class update with a link to a google photo album. Make sure you read the captions to see what we’ve been working on in class.
Seesaw
Your child will post work to their digital Seesaw portfolio throughout the week. You can view and give feedback to your child on the Seesaw app on your phone or device.

Dismissal Changes
If for some reason your transportation plans should change and your child will be going home differently than usual, please send me a note. A note in your child's blue take home folder is the best way to inform me. You can also email me during the day, but please do so before 1:30 pm to make sure I get the message in time. After 1:30, please call the office. I do try my best to send a quick “ok” back to let you know I saw your dismissal change email. You can also call the office and they will alert us of any dismissal changes. Please do not leave this important information on voicemail, as I do not check my voicemail until after school.
Snack
We will have a morning snack around 10:00. The preference is for students to bring a small healthy snack that they can manage independently. Suggested snacks include fresh fruits and vegetables, crackers and low fat, low sugar carbohydrates. Snacks should be packed separately from lunch. No NUTS please!
Birthdays
We celebrate birthdays in our classroom with several activities that honor your child and make them feel special on their special day. If your child’s birthday falls in the summer, we will celebrate their "unbirthday" at the end of the school year. Children do not bring birthday treats to school.
Vacations and Missed school work
Braeside Absence/Vacation Information: As you plan for vacations this year and in the future, please note that many learning experiences cannot be duplicated outside of the school environment. As a result, providing homework to be taken on a trip is challenging and not always productive. Good instruction is flexible and based upon the understanding and assessment that takes place each day. Teachers continually monitor progress and adjust the pace, materials, and plan accordingly. Lessons and homework are often altered daily. If a teacher does not provide homework and/or daily work in advance of such vacations, it may be the responsibility of the student to make up that work. We appreciate your understanding.
Scholastic Book Club
Your child will bring home Scholastic Book Orders every 1-2 months. Please order books ONLINE. I will not be collecting paper order forms. Books can be shipped directly to your home or to school.
